Can a High-Tech scanner make contact lenses fit better?

NCT ID NCT04570020

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study is testing whether a special eye scanner (OCT) can help fit scleral contact lenses more accurately than the usual method. Researchers will enroll 258 people with conditions like keratoconus or scarred corneas. Each participant will have lenses fitted both the standard way and with OCT guidance, and the fit quality will be compared.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

OCT-guided scleral lens fitting

What this could lead to

If successful, this could make scleral lens fittings faster and more accurate, improving comfort and vision for people with irregular corneas.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage study comparing two fitting methods; it does not test a new treatment. The results may not change current practice if OCT does not prove clearly better.
