Can early MS patients pause treatment? new trial seeks answers
NCT ID NCT05285891
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Aug 11, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study looks at whether people with early relapsing multiple sclerosis (MS) can stop taking ocrelizumab (Ocrevus) after two years without their disease coming back. All 123 participants will receive ocrelizumab for the first two years. Then, some will switch to a placebo while others continue the drug. Researchers will track relapses and brain scans for another two years to see if stopping is safe and effective.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- ocrelizumab (Ocrevus)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could show that some early MS patients may be able to stop treatment without relapse, reducing long-term drug exposure and side effects.
- What could go wrong
- This is a Phase 4 trial with only 123 participants, so results may not apply to all MS patients. There is a risk of relapse or new brain lesions if treatment is stopped.
