Scientists dig into body tissues to uncover diabetes secrets in obesity
NCT ID NCT02861781
First seen May 09, 2026 · Last updated May 09, 2026
Summary
This study aims to find new biological clues that explain why some people with severe obesity develop type 2 diabetes while others do not. Researchers will collect tissue samples (fat, muscle, liver, blood) from 270 adults during planned weight-loss surgery. By comparing samples from people with diabetes, insulin resistance, or normal insulin sensitivity, they hope to identify key differences in genes, proteins, and other molecules. The study does not test a new treatment but seeks to improve understanding of the disease.
