Could CAR T-Cells halt progressive MS? early trial launches
NCT ID NCT07139743
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This early-stage trial is testing a new treatment called obe-cel, a type of cell therapy (CAR T-cell), for people with progressive multiple sclerosis (MS) that hasn't improved with standard treatments. The main goal is to see if it's safe, but researchers will also look for any signs it might slow the disease. Only 18 adults aged 18 to 60 will receive a single infusion of obe-cel after a short course of chemotherapy, and they will be followed for two years.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- obe-cel (a CAR T-cell therapy)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a new treatment option for people with progressive multiple sclerosis that hasn't responded to other therapies.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very early, small Phase 1 trial with only 18 people, so it's mainly checking safety. The treatment may not work, and there are risks from the chemotherapy given beforehand and potential side effects from the cell therapy.
