Walnuts and walking: can a short prehab program help cancer patients?
NCT ID NCT06644560
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing whether a 3-week program of eating walnuts, supervised exercise, and nutrition counseling is practical for American Indian adults recently diagnosed with cancer. The 30 participants will follow the program before starting their cancer treatment. Researchers will measure if patients stick with the program and whether it changes certain markers of inflammation in the blood and tumor tissue.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
walnuts and supervised exercise
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that a short pre-treatment program of diet and exercise is practical and may help reduce inflammation in cancer patients.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early feasibility study with only 30 participants. It is not designed to prove the program improves health outcomes, only that it can be done.
