New study seeks simple tests to spot IBD earlier and predict its course

NCT ID NCT05414578

First seen May 09, 2026 · Last updated May 09, 2026

Summary

This study looked at 366 adults referred to hospitals with suspected inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. The goal was to find simple, non-invasive markers that could help doctors diagnose IBD more accurately and predict which patients might have severe outcomes like surgery or hospitalization. By improving early diagnosis and prognosis, researchers hope to reduce complications and improve quality of life for people with IBD.
