First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 24, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study aims to develop a blood test that uses fetal DNA found in the mother's blood to determine paternity early in pregnancy (6 to 22 weeks). It is designed for cases of sexual assault where the father is unknown, helping to reduce uncertainty and trauma. The test will be used only under court order. Researchers will enroll 60 pregnant women and their potential fathers to check how well the test works.
