First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a new, energy-rich therapeutic food for children aged 6 to 59 months with severe acute malnutrition. Researchers want to see if it helps kids recover physically and improves their brain development compared to the standard food. About 125 children in Pakistan will take the food for up to 12 weeks and be checked weekly.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Lipid-Optimized Ready to Use Therapeutic Food (LO-RUTF)
What this could lead to
If it works, this new food could help more children recover from severe malnutrition and support better brain development.
What could go wrong
This is a small early pilot trial with only 125 children, so results may not apply broadly. The new food may not work better than the standard version.
