Eggs and parenting: a recipe for healthier babies?

NCT ID NCT04785352

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether giving babies one egg daily along with teaching parents about responsive feeding, nutrition, and hygiene can improve growth and development. 600 infants in Haiti were split into three groups: standard care, eggs only, or eggs plus the parenting program. Researchers measured height, weight, head size, and developmental skills over one year.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Eggs and a parenting, nutrition, and hygiene program

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that combining daily eggs with responsive parenting and hygiene education is a simple, low-cost way to improve child growth and development in vulnerable communities.

What could go wrong

This is a completed trial, but results are not yet widely published. The intervention was tested in one region of Haiti, so findings may not apply to other settings. Also, eggs alone may not be enough to overcome severe malnutrition.
