Infant lung injury after bypass: scientists probe immune cell role

Summary
This study looks at why some infants develop lung injury after heart surgery that uses a heart-lung machine. Researchers will collect blood and fluid from the lungs of 56 babies under 1 year old to study how their immune cells (neutrophils) behave. The goal is to better understand the causes of this serious complication, not to test a new treatment.
