Brain stem cells implanted in first human trial for Huntington's

NCT ID NCT07451613

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This early-phase trial tests whether implanting human neural stem cells into the brain is safe for people with Huntington's disease. Twenty-one adults with confirmed Huntington's will receive the stem cell therapy and be monitored for side effects over 12 weeks and up to a year. It is the first time this treatment is being studied in humans.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

neural stem cells (hNSC-01)

What this could lead to

If safe and effective, this could point toward a treatment that slows or controls Huntington's disease progression.

What could go wrong

This is the first human test of this stem cell therapy, so safety and effectiveness are unknown. The trial is small (21 people) and early-stage, so results may not apply broadly.
