Could two drugs together beat one for Post-Surgery pain?
NCT ID NCT07099222
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether adding two drugs (dexamethasone and dexmedetomidine) to a standard nerve block can extend pain relief after shoulder, foot, or ankle surgery. About 100 adults will be randomly assigned to get either the two-drug combo or dexamethasone alone. The goal is to see if the combo provides longer pain control and reduces the need for opioid painkillers and their side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- dexamethasone and dexmedetomidine
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could give patients longer-lasting pain relief after surgery with fewer side effects and less need for opioids.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-phase trial with only 100 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The combination could also cause unexpected side effects.
