New hydration strategy aims to shield kidneys during heart procedures

NCT ID NCT04936607

First seen Dec 08, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study tests a new way to give fluids during heart procedures like angiograms to prevent kidney injury caused by the contrast dye. The approach tailors the amount of fluid based on the patient's heart pressure, dye dose, and kidney function. Researchers will compare this personalized hydration to a standard approach in about 1,158 adults to see if it reduces kidney damage and other serious complications.
