Could retraining neck muscles ease chronic pain without drugs?
NCT ID NCT07681687
First seen Jul 02, 2026 · Last updated Jul 02, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether adding sensory motor control training to standard muscle energy techniques can better reduce pain and improve movement in people with chronic mechanical neck pain. Participants are adults aged 18 to 35 with neck pain lasting over three months. The trial compares two groups: one receiving only muscle energy techniques and another receiving both muscle energy and sensory motor control training.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Sensory Motor Control training and Muscle Energy Technique
What this could lead to
If effective, this combination approach could offer a better non-drug treatment option for chronic neck pain, reducing pain and improving daily function.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 52 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The benefits may be modest or not last long-term.
