Breast cancer breakthrough? major trial questions need for lymph node biopsy

NCT ID NCT04303715

First seen Feb 16, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study looks at whether women with small breast tumors (under 5 cm) and no signs of cancer in their lymph nodes can avoid sentinel lymph node biopsy during breast-conserving surgery. About 1,734 women are being randomly assigned to either have the biopsy or skip it. The goal is to see if skipping the procedure leads to the same long-term outcomes, with fewer side effects.
