Light in the nose slashes surgery infection risk?

NCT ID NCT06702878

First seen Nov 17, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study tested a new approach to prevent surgical site infections: using a special light treatment inside the nose before surgery. Nearly 4,800 adults having major surgeries (like heart, spine, or breast surgery) took part. Half got the light treatment plus standard care, and half got standard care alone. The goal was to see if the light treatment could lower the number of infections within 30 days after surgery.
