First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 11, 2026 · Updated 25 times
Summary
This study looked at 1,000 adults aged 40-80 with type 2 diabetes or obesity to find the best way to screen for advanced liver scarring (fibrosis) caused by fatty liver disease. Researchers tested combinations of blood tests and a special ultrasound (FibroScan) to improve accuracy and reduce unnecessary referrals to liver specialists. The goal was to identify those who truly need specialist care while avoiding over-referral.
