Can a common antioxidant boost CAR T-Cell therapy for lymphoma?

NCT ID NCT05081479

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This early-phase trial tests whether adding N-Acetylcysteine (N-AC), an antioxidant, to standard CAR T-cell therapy (Yescarta) is safe for people with lymphoma. Nine participants receive different doses of N-AC to find the highest dose with few side effects. The goal is to see if N-AC can improve the tumor environment and make the CAR T cells work better.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

N-Acetylcysteine (N-AC) given with axicabtagene ciloleucel (Yescarta) CAR T-cell therapy

What this could lead to

If it works, this could make CAR T-cell therapy more effective for lymphoma by improving the tumor environment.

What could go wrong

This is a very early phase 1 trial with only 9 participants, so it's mainly checking safety. The benefit is uncertain, and side effects from the combination are unknown.
