Ear cartilage injection may offer longer knee pain relief than PRP

NCT ID NCT07453953

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This early-phase trial tests whether a single injection of Mytocel MSK (made from a patient's own ear cartilage) can improve knee osteoarthritis better than standard PRP injections. Thirty adults with mild-to-moderate knee arthritis will receive either the new cell therapy or PRP. Researchers will track pain, function, and cartilage changes over 52 weeks using questionnaires and MRI scans.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Mytocel MSK with AMT (autologous micrograft from ear cartilage)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a longer-lasting, single-injection treatment for knee osteoarthritis, reducing pain and improving joint function.

What could go wrong

This is a very early (Phase 1) trial with only 30 participants, so results may not be generalizable. The procedure involves harvesting ear cartilage, which carries minor surgical risks.
