Tiny study hopes to simplify muscle testing for rare muscle disease

NCT ID NCT05027152

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looked at a new way to measure muscle function in people with inflammatory myopathies (diseases that cause muscle weakness). Researchers compared a simple test called the Myositis Functional Index-3 with advanced computerised muscle testing. They also tested whether a repetitive task training program could help improve muscle strength and endurance. Only 2 people took part, so the results are very preliminary.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

repetitive task training

What this could lead to

If successful, this could provide a simpler, cheaper way to track muscle function in myositis and suggest that repetitive task training is safe and effective.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early study with only 2 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The training may not show clear benefits.
