Ancient chinese music tunes tested as depression treatment
NCT ID NCT07653113
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a unique music therapy, based on Traditional Chinese Medicine's five-element theory, can help men with depression and anxiety when added to their usual medication. One hundred male inpatients will receive either standard drugs alone, drugs plus regular music, or drugs plus this special resonance-based music therapy for four weeks. Researchers will measure changes in mood, anxiety, and physical markers like stress hormones and brain activity.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Resonance-Based Chinese Five-Element Music Intervention (RFEMI)
What this could lead to
If effective, this music therapy could offer a drug-free way to boost mood and reduce anxiety for men hospitalized with depression.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 100 male participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The music therapy is added to standard care, so its standalone effect is unclear.
