This trial is taking on new participants right now.
Not yet recruiting
Registered, but not yet taking participants.

Not open to general applications. Only people the study team invites can take part.
Paused
Paused for now. It may or may not start again.
Ongoing
Running, but no longer taking on new participants.
Completed
The trial has finished. Results may not be published yet.
Stopped early
Stopped early, before it reached the end. That can be for many reasons, including safety.
Cancelled
Cancelled before anyone took part.

Expanded access (not trials)

Expanded access
Not a trial. This treatment can be requested outside a study, case by case, for people who qualify.
Expanded access (paused)
Not a trial. The treatment can normally be requested outside a study, but is unavailable right now.
Expanded access (ended)
Not a trial. The treatment could once be requested outside a study, but no longer can.
Approved
The treatment has been approved, so it is available normally rather than through this programme.

Summary

Researchers are studying whether having more other health conditions before knee replacement surgery is linked to poorer physical function afterward. About 230 adults with knee osteoarthritis who are scheduled for a first knee replacement at one hospital in Türkiye will take part. The study measures health conditions before surgery and tracks function, pain, anxiety, and depression before surgery and at 6 and 12 months after. All patients receive routine care; the study adds no experimental treatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If researchers find a link, doctors could better predict which patients need extra support after knee replacement and tailor rehabilitation plans.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study at a single hospital, so it can show associations but not prove cause and effect. Findings may not apply to other hospitals or patient groups.

Who is studied

The study population will consist of adult patients aged 18 years or older with primary knee osteoarthritis who are scheduled to undergo elective unilateral primary total knee arthroplasty at the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology, Balikesir Ataturk City Hospital, Türkiye. Eligible patients will be consecutively recruited during the study enrollment period. All participants will receive standard surgical treatment and postoperative rehabilitation according to routine institutional practice. Participants will be followed prospectively, with clinical and patient-reported outcome assessments performed preoperatively and at 6 and 12 months after surgery.
