New MRI technique could sharpen MS diagnosis
NCT ID NCT04705870
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested two different MRI scanning methods to see which better detects the 'central vein sign' in the brains of people with multiple sclerosis (MS). The central vein sign is a marker that helps doctors diagnose MS more accurately. Sixty adults with early-stage MS underwent extra MRI sequences during their routine scan. The goal was to compare a standard fast MRI with a newer, higher-resolution version to see if the newer one finds more of these signs.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
cerebral MRI (device)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to more accurate and faster MRI-based diagnosis of multiple sclerosis.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study focused on comparing imaging techniques, not a treatment. Results may not change current practice without larger validation.
