Can fake bruises on dolls train nurses to save abused kids?
NCT ID NCT07509723
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether using moulage (special makeup) on a child mannequin helps nursing students recognize signs of physical abuse better than standard lectures alone. About 70 students will be randomly assigned to either practice on a mannequin with simulated injuries or receive usual training. Researchers will measure changes in students' knowledge and attitudes about reporting abuse.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
moulage technique (makeup applied to a mannequin to simulate physical abuse injuries)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that moulage-based simulation improves nursing students' ability to spot child abuse, potentially leading to better training methods.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage educational study with 70 students, not a clinical treatment trial. Results may not apply to real-world settings or other groups.
