First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether supervised exercise and the diabetes drug semaglutide, alone or together, can improve thinking and brain health in older adults with type 2 diabetes. About 164 people aged 65 and older will take part. They will be assigned to exercise training, a control exercise, semaglutide injections, or standard diabetes care for up to 32 weeks.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- semaglutide (a diabetes drug) and supervised resistance exercise
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a way to protect brain function in older adults with type 2 diabetes using exercise and medication.
- What could go wrong
- This is a phase 4 trial, but it's still early and small. The results may not apply to everyone, and semaglutide can cause side effects like nausea or stomach issues.
