Morning or afternoon? timing of heart surgery may matter
NCT ID NCT02812901
First seen Feb 05, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 16 times
Summary
This study looked at whether the time of day a person has heart surgery affects how well their heart muscle tolerates the stress of the procedure. Researchers took small tissue samples from the hearts of 88 patients scheduled for non-emergency heart surgery, randomly assigning them to morning or afternoon operations. The samples were then tested in the lab to measure damage under conditions similar to surgery. The goal was simply to learn more about how the body's internal clock influences heart recovery, not to test a new treatment.
