Dental surgery may speed up braces for molar movement

NCT ID NCT03794726

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a special dental surgery called PAOO, done before braces, helps move back molars faster and with less discomfort. Forty adults with misaligned teeth will be randomly assigned to get braces alone or braces plus PAOO. Researchers will measure tooth movement and patient comfort over three months.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Periodontally Accelerated Osteogenic Orthodontic (PAOO) surgery

What this could lead to

If it works, this could make orthodontic treatment faster and more comfortable for adults needing molar movement.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The surgery adds risk of pain, swelling, or infection.
