Can a fitness tracker and coaching get teens with leukemia moving?

NCT ID NCT06182163

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested whether a mobile health program—including a Fitbit with movement reminders, coaching sessions, and a WhatsApp peer support group—could help 20 adolescents and young adults with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) reduce the time they spend sitting or lying down during maintenance chemotherapy. The main goal was to see if the program was practical and acceptable to participants. Researchers also looked for early signs that it might improve quality of life, reduce inflammation, and help with metabolism.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

mobile health intervention (Fitbit, coaching, peer support)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a practical way to help teens and young adults with ALL be less sedentary, potentially improving their quality of life and health during treatment.

What could go wrong

This is a very small feasibility trial with only 20 participants and no control group, so results may not apply broadly. The intervention may not be engaging enough to sustain long-term behavior change.
