Can a phone app speed up shoulder fracture recovery?
NCT ID NCT04572022
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This pilot study tests whether a mobile health app with step-by-step exercise videos can help people recover better after a proximal humerus (shoulder) fracture. Sixty adults with this injury will be split into two groups: one gets standard care, the other gets standard care plus the app. Researchers will measure shoulder function and satisfaction at 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
mobile health app with rehabilitation videos
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that a simple smartphone app helps people recover faster and more fully from a shoulder fracture.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study with only 60 people, so results may not apply to everyone. It also requires patients to have Bluetooth and be willing to exercise at home.
