Virtual reality fitness tests could replace traditional assessments for overweight individuals
NCT ID NCT07654439
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing whether mixed reality (MR) versions of common mobility tests, like the Timed Up and Go test, are as accurate and reliable as the traditional versions for overweight and obese adults. About 119 participants will perform both MR and conventional tests using a Meta Quest 3 headset. The goal is to see if digital assessments can offer a safe, standardized, and potentially remote way to evaluate functional performance in this population.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Mixed reality-based functional mobility tests (Timed Up and Go, 4-Meter Walk, Five-Repetition Sit-to-Stand) delivered via Meta Quest 3 headset
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a standardized, digital way to assess mobility in overweight/obese individuals, potentially enabling remote monitoring.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage validation study, not a treatment trial. The mixed reality tests may not match traditional results due to depth perception or movement differences, limiting clinical use.
