New targeted therapy hopes to shrink Hard-to-Treat ovarian cancers

NCT ID NCT06390995

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests a drug called mirvetuximab soravtansine in Japanese patients with advanced ovarian cancer or other solid tumors that have a specific protein (folate receptor alpha). The drug is designed to target and kill cancer cells while sparing healthy ones. The trial has two parts: the first checks safety and the right dose, and the second looks at how well it controls the cancer. About 28 participants will receive the drug every three weeks for up to 24 months.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
mirvetuximab soravtansine (a drug that targets a protein called folate receptor alpha on cancer cells and delivers a toxin to kill them)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a new treatment option for Japanese patients with advanced ovarian cancer and other solid tumors that have not responded to standard therapies.
What could go wrong
This is an early-phase trial with only 28 participants, so results may not apply to a larger population. Side effects, including eye problems, lung inflammation, and nerve damage, are possible.
