NCT ID NCT07526987

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jul 02, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study tests whether the antibiotic minocycline can improve recovery in people having an ischemic stroke. About 934 adults will receive either minocycline or a placebo, in addition to standard clot-busting medication. The goal is to see if minocycline leads to better functional outcomes, like being able to live independently after the stroke.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
minocycline (an antibiotic)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a simple, widely available add-on treatment to improve recovery after a stroke.
What could go wrong
This is a large Phase 3 trial, but minocycline has not been proven effective for stroke before. It may not improve outcomes and could have side effects like dizziness or nausea.
