First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study tests whether a two-week daily mindfulness meditation program can reduce pain and improve daily function in older adults with chronic low back pain. Researchers will also explore how meditation affects the gut-brain connection. The trial aims to recruit 66 participants aged 50 and older who have had moderate low back pain for at least three months.

mindfulness-based meditation
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple, drug-free way to manage chronic low back pain in older adults.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early pilot study with only 66 participants and no comparison to other treatments. Results may not apply to everyone, and the meditation requires daily commitment.
