Can a smartphone app bridge the mental health care gap?
NCT ID NCT07778680
Running, but no longer taking on new participants.
First seen Aug 21, 2026 ยท Last updated Aug 21, 2026
Summary
This trial tests whether a mindfulness app called AmDTx (now DawnDTx) can help reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression in people who are on a waiting list for their first psychiatric consultation. Participants will be randomly assigned to use either the mindfulness app or a placebo app during the wait. The study measures changes in anxiety (GAD7) and depression (PHQ8) scores to see if the app provides meaningful relief while they await professional care.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- A mobile mental health app called AmDTx (also known as DawnDTx) that provides mindfulness-based exercises and content.
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this app could offer a practical, low-cost way to support people waiting for mental health care, potentially reducing symptoms before their first appointment.
- What could go wrong
- The trial is relatively small and early, and the app may not outperform a placebo. Also, benefits might vary depending on individual engagement and the severity of symptoms.
