Heart drug may shield tiny preemies from deadly Post-Surgery complication

Summary
This study tests if the drug milrinone can prevent a serious heart problem called post-ligation cardiac syndrome (PLCS) in very premature babies who need surgery to close a heart vessel. About 316 infants born before 27 weeks will receive either milrinone or standard care after the procedure. The goal is to see if the drug reduces death or PLCS within a week and improves long-term survival and brain development at age two.
