Can a blood pressure drug stop deadly fluid buildup in liver failure?

NCT ID NCT07422948

First seen Feb 23, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This study tests whether starting midodrine early can better control ascites (fluid buildup in the belly) and prevent kidney complications in people with acute-on-chronic liver failure. About 113 adults with moderate to severe ascites will receive either standard care or standard care plus midodrine. The goal is to see if midodrine helps reduce fluid and avoid the need for large-volume fluid removal procedures.
