First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study aims to detect and measure microplastics in pancreas tissue from 10 patients having pancreatic surgery. Researchers will also check fat tissue and blood samples. The goal is to see if microplastics are present and whether they might be linked to metabolic problems or cancer. This is a very early, observational study that will not test any treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If microplastics are found, this could open a new area of research into whether they contribute to pancreatic disease or cancer.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small, early study with only 10 people. It only looks for microplastics, not whether they cause disease, so it cannot prove any health effects.
