Rapid microbiome test aims to stop deadly ICU pneumonia before it starts
NCT ID NCT07463339
Summary
This study is testing a new, personalized method to prevent pneumonia in critically ill patients on breathing machines in the ICU. Researchers will use a rapid test to analyze the bacteria in a patient's airway. If harmful bacteria are found, the patient receives a targeted inhaled antibiotic for 5 days to try to prevent infection before it develops. The goal is to see if this precise approach is practical and safe to implement in the ICU setting.
