Smartwatch coaching boosts activity in spinal cord injury patients
NCT ID NCT05317832
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tests a smartwatch-based system that gives real-time tips and reminders to help people with spinal cord injury increase their physical activity. About 196 adults who use wheelchairs will be split into two groups: one gets a standard web-based exercise program, and the other gets that program plus the smartwatch coaching. The goal is to see if the smartwatch helps them do more moderate-intensity exercise over 14 weeks.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- behavioral intervention (web-based program plus smartwatch reminders and goal setting)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could help people with spinal cord injury become more active and improve their health and well-being.
- What could go wrong
- This is a mid-stage trial with 196 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The intervention relies on technology and user engagement, which may not work for all.
