Can a simple score save lives? new study tests trauma prediction tools
NCT ID NCT06732791
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two scoring systems, MGAP and GAP, to see which better predicts outcomes like death, hospital stay length, and need for surgery in people with multiple injuries. About 522 adults with trauma will be scored when they arrive at the emergency department, and their progress will be tracked. The goal is to find a more accurate way to quickly assess how serious a patient's condition is.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help doctors better predict which trauma patients need more urgent care, potentially improving survival and resource use.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. The scores may not perform better than existing methods, and results may not apply to other hospitals or settings.
