Brain fog breakthrough? steroid trial for long COVID memory loss

NCT ID NCT05986422

First seen May 13, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tested whether the steroid methylprednisolone could improve memory and thinking in people with post-COVID syndrome (brain fog). About 96 adults with long COVID and memory complaints were randomly assigned to take the drug or a placebo for six weeks. The trial was stopped early, so results are limited, but the goal was to see if a short course of this anti-inflammatory drug could ease cognitive symptoms.
