New study tests methadone for safer pain relief in kids after cleft palate surgery

Summary

This study tests whether a long-acting opioid (methadone) works better than short-acting opioids (fentanyl/hydromorphone) for pain control after cleft palate repair in infants and young children aged 6 months to 4 years. The goal is to reduce the total amount of opioids needed and improve recovery. The study is currently recruiting 60 participants at Duke University.
