First seen May 23, 2026 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study looked back at medical records of 2,740 adults with type 2 diabetes who were admitted to the ICU for septic shock, a life-threatening infection. Researchers wanted to see if those who were already taking metformin (a standard diabetes pill) before getting sick had a lower chance of dying within 30 days. The goal is to understand if metformin offers extra protection beyond controlling blood sugar.
