First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 34 times

Summary

This study looked at whether the diabetes drug metformin can be used safely in people with all stages of kidney disease (stages 1-5). About 82 diabetic patients with stable kidney function were given increasing doses of metformin. Researchers measured the drug level in red blood cells to see if it stayed within a safe range, even in those with severe kidney problems.
