Mesh or sutures? new trial aims to stop hernia recurrence

NCT ID NCT05974722

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares two surgical techniques to repair a type of hiatal hernia (paraesophageal hernia) that often comes back. Researchers want to see if using a special mesh (Ovitex) is better than using sutures alone to prevent the hernia from returning within two years. About 164 adults undergoing surgery at the Cleveland Clinic will take part, and their quality of life will also be tracked.
