Summary
This study tested whether mepolizumab, an asthma drug, can reduce lung inflammation and flare-ups in people with COPD who have high levels of eosinophils (a sign of asthma-like inflammation). Thirty-one participants received mepolizumab every 4 weeks for a year and had MRI scans to track changes in their lungs. The goal was to see if early reductions in inflammation led to fewer exacerbations and better quality of life.
