First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests whether adding memory-support strategies to standard cognitive processing therapy (CPT) helps older veterans with PTSD learn and remember therapy content better. Thirty veterans over age 59 will receive either standard CPT or CPT with extra memory aids. The goal is to see if this approach is feasible and improves PTSD symptoms.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Cognitive Processing Therapy with memory support strategies
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a more effective version of PTSD therapy for older adults, helping them remember and apply coping skills better.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early feasibility study with only 30 participants, so results may not apply broadly. Memory support may not significantly improve outcomes.
