Summary

This phase 2 trial tests whether memantine hydrochloride, a drug used for Alzheimer's, can help control advanced prostate cancer that has stopped responding to standard hormone therapy. Fifteen men with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer will take memantine alongside their usual treatment. Researchers will track how long the disease stays under control and whether PSA levels drop.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

memantine hydrochloride

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a new way to slow advanced prostate cancer by adding a common Alzheimer's drug to standard care.

What could go wrong

This is a very early, small study with only 15 people. It may not show clear benefit, and memantine is not proven for cancer. Results may not apply to all patients.
