Magnetic endoscope could make colonoscopy easier for IBD patients

NCT ID NCT06989424

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study will test a new type of colonoscope called the Magnetic Flexible Endoscope (MFE) in 6 people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The MFE uses a magnet at its tip, moved by an external robotic arm, to gently travel through the colon. The goal is to see if it can reach the end of the colon and how well patients tolerate it.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Magnetic Flexible Endoscope (MFE)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a more comfortable and safer colonoscopy option for people with IBD.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early feasibility study with only 6 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The device may not work as expected or could cause discomfort.
