New tracer injection could sharpen cancer detection in lymph nodes
NCT ID NCT02285192
First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated Jun 21, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study tests whether injecting a radioactive sugar tracer (18F-FDG) into the cervix before a PET/CT scan can better show which pelvic lymph nodes contain cancer in women with early-stage cervical or high-grade endometrial cancer. The goal is to improve surgical planning by more accurately mapping cancer spread. The trial involves 42 women and compares imaging results with lab analysis of removed lymph nodes.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a more accurate way to map cancer spread to lymph nodes, helping surgeons remove the right nodes and potentially improving treatment planning.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study with only 42 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The technique is still experimental and may not be more accurate than current methods.
